Abstract: This study aims to discuss the formation of the Roman citizen proposed by Marco Túlio Cícero (106 – 43 BC) in De Officiis. Initially, an overview of De Officiis is presented; then, an analysis of the role of virtues in the formative process of the Roman man and, finally, the political purpose of his formation proposal is discussed. For the author, the virtue par excellence is honesty, characterized as the supreme rule of morality, which, praiseworthy in itself, must be sought above all things. The honest dimension of human acts is composed of four virtues related to reason, namely: wisdom, justice or generosity, greatness of soul and decorum. Each of them presupposes duties that man must fulfill in order to live in society. Finally, the author erects the paradigm of the politician, who, based on a rigid system of moral values and in full harmony with the responsibilities towards society, it could restore the Republic permeated by corruption.
