Abstract

This work consists of offering a socio-historical analysis of the performance of the Juscelino Kubitschek administration (1956-1961) in the educational area, more specifically in the context of secondary education. The hypothesis worked is that this modality was contested at the time by sectors of society and the educational community due to the fact that it did not meet the needs generated by the development process, leaving the then administration to conduct its reformulation without the expected success. To test it, we carried out a critical and systematic analysis of primary and secondary sources, with a view to identifying what was idealized and what was carried out by the Kubitschek administration in the context of secondary education and whether there was response to the reform appeals at the time.
