The aim of this study to investigate the characteristics of Complexity Theory and the main factors involved in the teaching-learning process of languages, in the light of this perspective. It is characterized as an exploratory and bibliographic research in a qualitative approach. The methodological procedures include the selection, organization and analysis of a corpus of works that contemplate language teaching as a complex adaptive system. The analysis was performed using the Sphinx IQ2 software with treatment of the information by content analysis. The results show dynamicity, unpredictability, non-linearity, adaptability and chaoticity as the main characteristics of this approach and point to a set of social, cognitive, psychological, technological, linguistic/ discursive, pedagogical and personal dimensions, whose factors interdependent and heterogeneous, potentially interact and modify the learning process.
