Abstract

The present descriptive research is based on the analysis of the curriculum proposal for “Sector de Lengua Indígena” of “Programa de Educación Intercultural Bilingüe (PEIB)”, which was submitted to public consultation by the Ministry of Education of the Chilean government (Mineduc) in 2012. From a communicative approach of language teaching, the objective is to describe “the communicative competence” presented in these pedagogical proposal of the Mineduc for Sector de Lengua Indígena. The results show that the learning objectives of PEIB proposal are mainly oriented to develop sociocultural competence, rather than towards the development of grammatical morphosintactic, discursive and strategic competence.

Keywords: Indigenous Language, Intercultural Education, communicative competence.
