Solidarity Economy: Competition or transformation in the market?

Abstract

Beginning by setting down the fundamental characteristics of the solidarity economy enterprise, the present article seeks to study, from a theoretical point of view, their capacity of maintenance of their intrinsic characteristics while surviving the market competition. Therefore, we study the impact of market relations on the internal organization of solidarity enterprises and also the impact of these enterprises on the ways that market are configured, addressing the issue of fair-trade. We conclude for the existence of a tendency of changes on some market mechanisms that can be fostered by solidarity enterprises and by which they can take advantage on the struggle for survival.
