A Pedagogical Architecture from a hybrid course in a U.S media course: focused on digital competences

Abstract

The objective of this article is to construct a Pedagogical Architecture (PA) for a hybrid course offered by Teachers College of Columbia University and the mapping of the students’ digital competences. This study was realized through an exchange between the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul and Columbia University. It is both a qualitative and quantitative study, with a case study that was carried out in two stages. First the PA was applied and the students were monitored during a course which was taught for the first time in a hybrid format. Secondly, the students’ digital competences were mapped based on a Brazilian model. A bibliographic survey was conducted, followed by a document analysis, and then an online questionnaire with the course’s students was applied. This resulted in a PA for the hybrid course in question and the digital competences necessary for students. It became clear that this type of study presents innovative solutions for this area, focusing on the construction of student competences in different virtual contexts. Studies of hybrid learning environments raise important questions about the new teacher profile and their digital competences in educational processes.

Patricia Alejandra Behar, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul

Professora Titular da Faculdade de Educação e dos Cursos de Pós Graduação em Educação (PPGEdu) e em Informática na Educação (PPGIE) da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Visitor Professor pelo Programa Fulbright no Teachers College da Columbia University (2018-2019). Possui bolsa de Produtividade em Pesquisa (DT/Cnpq), nível I. Mestre (1991-1993) e Doutora (1994-1998) em Ciência da Computação pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Tem experiência na área de Educação, com ênfase em Educação a Distância (EAD) e Informática na Educação. Atua, principalmente, nos seguintes temas: desenvolvimento de ambientes virtuais de aprendizagem (AVAs), produção e avaliação de materiais educacionais digitais, arquiteturas pedagógicas, modelos pedagógicos para EAD, competências em EAD, recomendação pedagógica em EAD, formação de professores em AVAs. Coordena o Núcleo de Tecnologia Digital aplicada à Educação (NUTED/Cnpq) da Faculdade de Educação (FACED) e vinculado ao Centro Interdisciplinar de Novas Tecnologias na Educação (CINTED), desde 2000. Desenvolveu o ambiente virtual ROODA, utilizado como uma das plataforma de EAD da UFRGS em cursos presencias e totalmente a distância. Membro do comitê IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) Technical Committee 3-Education. Autora dos Livros MODELOS PEDAGÓGICOS EM EDUCAÇÃO A DISTÂNCIA. Hui Soo Chae, Teachers College, Columbia University

Hui Soo Chae is Senior Director for Research, Development, and Strategy at the Gottesman Libraries. In that capacity he leads the consulting, research, publishing, and software product development initiatives. As a co-founder of the EdLab, he has played a key role in creating the context for cross-disciplinary collaboration as the foundation for the EdLab innovation agenda.  

Gary Natriello, Teachers College, Columbia University

Gary Natriello is the Gottesman Professor of Educational Research and Professor of Sociology and Education in the Department of Human Development at Teachers College, Columbia University.  Professor Natriello teaches graduate courses in the social organization of schools and classrooms, the social dimensions of assessment processes, the sociology of online learning, and research methods.
Professor Natriello is the Director of the Teachers College EdLab, a design and development unit devoted to creating new educational possibilities for the information age.  Professor Natriello is the executive editor of the Teachers College Record and the Director of the Gottesman Libraries at Teachers College.
Professor Natriello holds an A.B. (English) from Princeton University, an A.M. (sociology) from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. (sociology of education) from Stanford University.  He has also been a post-doctoral fellow in the NIMH Program in Structurally Induced Social Problems and Mental Health in the Department of Sociology at Johns Hopkins University.  

Ketia Kellen Araújo da Silva, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul

Professora Colaboradora na Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) no Máster Universitário en Educación y TIC. Professora Colaboradora do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Informática na Educaçnao (PGIE/UFRGS). Pós-Doutoranda PPGIE/UFRGS, Doutora em Informática na Educação - PPGIE/UFRGS, com período sanduíche na Universidad Oberta da Cataluña (UOC). Mestre em Educação - Linha de Pesquisa Informática na Educação -PPGEDU/UFRGS . Graduada em Pedagogia, Licenciatura, UFRGS no ano de 2008, com intercâmbio na Universidad Nacional de Entre Ríos (UNER). Participa como pesquisadora no Núcleo de Tecnologia Digital aplicado a Educação NUTED/UFRGS desde o ano de 2005 e tem experiências na área de Educação a Distância (EAD), Designer Instrucional, tutoria em EAD, Objetos de Aprendizagem(OA), Arquiteturas Pedagógicas, Ambientes Virtuais de Aprendizagem(AVAs), Competências digitais, Sistemas de recomendação de conteúdo e formação de professores.
