Abstract

This article discusses the education of a professional class of art teachers from the transition of the Course of Visual Arts in Education (CAPE) to the Bachelor of Arts Education linked to Paraná College of Music Education (FEMP). This change meant an alteration of a refresher course designed for graduates taking the teaching degree for a Higher Education degree specialized in art education – Art Education Degree. It adopts as its main theoretical reference Bourdieu (1996) regarding the art teaching professionalization in Curitiba in the late 1940s. We conclude that the new configuration of art teaching is a result of institutional conditions for structuring the symbolic goods market in Curitiba, highlighting the importance of Higher Education in this initial phase of development as a field.
