This article explores some of the educational experiences developed by anarchists, socialists and communists in Montevideo between 1920 and 1950. It focuses on the initiatives developed in cultural centers and study circles, training courses and libraries. These initiatives – together with other practices, such as cultural evenings and festivals, sports, celebrations, rituals – were part of a wide range of alternative activities in some cultural circuits created by these three groups and leftist ideologies during this period.
