On the pedagogization of the urban experience: The educating city project

The starting point of this article is the detection of an intensifi cation of theoretical and practical initiatives considered formative in non-school contexts. Based on some formulations of Michel Foucault, we propose to discuss the urban education as a locus of contemporary governmentality. More specifi cally, we undertook an investigation of the academic literature on the relations between city and education and, particularly, of documents concerning the educating city project. The analysis allowed us to conclude that there is an ongoing production of an intensive mode of government of populations based on a pedagogized experience of citizenship involving the dissemination of non-formal educational practices.
