The constitution of the elementary mathematical knowledge: An analysis of educational programs (São Paulo, 1890-1950)

Abstract

The text examines the processes and dynamics of formation of the “elementary math”, understood as the first step, the initial knowledge base in mathematics organized to be taught to students of the early school years. The research uses as sources of research programs of teaching Arithmetic, produced in the state of São Paulo, between the years 1890 and 1950 as a theoretical-methodological reference work sets its historical in nature, building the research object from elements from the history of education. The results indicate changes of elementary mathematical knowledge, in line with the different pedagogies that the school system is subjected to.
