In Portugal, the Lifelong Training Program in Mathematics for elementary school teachers (from the 1st to the 4th grade) is primarily designed to promote the teachers’ didactic knowledge in order to improve the pupils’ performances in mathematics. In the present study, 197 generalist elementary school teachers who had participated in the program during the 2007/2008 school year were inquired about their perceptions concerning various dimensions of the teaching and learning of mathematics and about their participation in the program. Concerning results, we highlight, comparing the period before and after training, some changes that point to the current recommendations for the teaching of mathematics that seem to require a longer training period in order to improve the teachers’ didactic knowledge. Keywords: Lifelong Training Program in Mathematics, elementary school teachers, teaching and learning dimensions.
