Abstract

This work results from studies done by the Research Group on Public Policies and Educational Management (GEPPGE) focused on the topic of participation. It consists of a qualitative research based on documental analysis, having a municipal public school from Santa Maria as the research field. This study aims to verify how the school describes in its documents the forms of participation at its different levels of manifestation. The analysis done shows that there are contradictions in the understanding of participation, considering that the school proposal reveals that the decisions will be collective, provided that the specificities of each function, at all levels, are respected. This shows a strong division into sectors and hierarchical structuring in the school. This board can be reverted through the stimulus to autonomy and effective popular participation in a way to break the power centralism yet very present at the school.

Key words: democracy, participation, Political Pedagogical Project.
