This paper discusses the concept of social and cultural reproduction through schooling and analyzes its actual potential and its contributions to the construction of a discourse of resistance in education. On the basis of a comparative method, it examines the presence of connections between the paradigms of reproduction and resistance. For this purpose, it describes the main features of both sets of theories, sometimes confronting them in order to fi nd common theoretical elements.
Key words: education, social reproduction, cultural reproduction, political consciousness.
