Teacher autonomy in daily class life: thinking about one’s own work to become a subject
Abstract
The paper starts from the idea that teaching is undervalued by society, which is expressed in the extremely bad working condition and salaries offered to the teachers, who respond with lack of motivation. The paper, therefore, addresses two main aspects: (1) a systematization of the teachers’ working conditions, referring particularly to the teachers’ burnout; and (2) possible ways to ascribe meaning to the teachers’ activity, especially in basic education, by restoring their autonomy and overcoming alienated work. For this purpose, it examines the testimonies of secondary school students about what pleases and displeases them in their teachers’ activities, arguing that it is necessary to establish new relations with knowledge together with the students.
Key words: teachers’ work, burnout, teaching-learning processes, relation with knowledge.Downloads
