From elegant books to rustic brochures: Readings and knowledge of hygiene and domestic teaching for rural Mexican women

The article deals with various discourses on reading for Mexican women, focusing on those that contain prescriptions on domestic hygiene. The selected publications are from the late 19th and early 20th century, when modern hygienistic ideas were disseminated through periodicals, textbooks and books for women. The second part of the article discusses the promotion of domestic hygiene and education in rural households in the years following the Mexican Revolution through various official publications.Keywords: reading, women, rural.
