Abstract

In this article we present the results of a research project conducted on the basis of a bibliographic and documental analysis aiming at discussing the implications of the process of production restructuring for the education of workers in the context of the high school reform. The analysis considers the connection between the so-called process of production restructuring occurred in the global and national contexts and the reforms of the State and education, carried out in a more effective way from the decade of 1990 onwards in Brazil. For this purpose, we present some considerations concerning the changes in the production paradigm implemented in accordance with the peculiarities that characterize the country. We also discuss the new functions required from Basic Education,  particularly the adaptation of high school to the changes of the production paradigm. Based on the bibliographic and  documental analysis, we identifythe emphasis put since the ’1990s on the reform of high school and professional education, which, although guided by the association between general and professional education, still reproduce a historical duality.
