The article reflects on the teaching of reading from a perspective of reflection on the language(gem), passing through the interactionist model of reading and the study of textual genres. To do so, it seeks theoretical support in Geraldi (2010), Kleiman and Signorini (1995), XXXXX (2009; 2016; 2017), among others, in addition to the PCN (BRASIL, 1998) and the BNCC (BRASIL, 2017). In this way, it turns to the teaching of Portuguese language in the current school reality, in a scenario that demands action taken in favor of the development of successful pedagogical practices for Basic Education. For this, it presents a proposal for school literacy with cordel leaflets that contemplates linguistic diversity and values the student's local culture. The study allowed us to understand that an interdisciplinary reading teaching project, mediated by cordel booklets in Portuguese language classes, allows reading to be studied in a process of dialogue that involves reader, text and author. It was evidenced that from the moment the student becomes the subject of the discourse, his contribution to the school literacy process is evident, raising self-esteem, the level of learning and his life experiences.
