In this paper, I propose a reading of Menelick de Carvalho Netto’s A sanção no procedimento legislativo. Opposing the so-called monarchical principle, the idea that all normativity is dependent on the totalizing instance of a sovereign will, Menelick attempts to think the autonomy of constitutional law. Between dictatorship and democracy, memory and project, mourning and utopia, the result is a narrative mechanism that multiplies the possibilities of a constitutional text. We can call it Menelick’s machine.
