The Mouffe x Rawls debate: From egalitarian liberalism to radical democracy

This article aims to present the main points of debate between John Rawls and Chantal Mouffe about the best model of democracy to be applied in contemporary society, which is marked by pluralism. To this end, the first section offers a brief study on the theory of justice formulated by John Rawls and its implications in the political field. The second section, in turn, analyzes Chantal Mouffe’s critique of the theoretical model developed by Rawls and presents the model proposed by the Belgian thinker, called by herself radical model of democracy.
