The moral recognition and democracy

Abstract

This paper discusses the relation between morality and democracy, through the recognition of honor. It investigates the foundations of moral reason that provide support for political reason in the establishment of a conviviality among social subjects. This argument is based on studies by Habermas, Sen, Appiah and Arendt. Different cultures demands approaches by its differences between peoples and nations. According to this thought, it is relevant to study culture in the analysis of morality at intersections with democratic experiences, highlighting its present experiences. Tolerance is essential to establish cultural relations that prevent an experience of an understanding attitude among the different and the divergent. These arguments prove the importance of moral behavior and political action. We affirm that moral recognition is necessary for human coexistence in the present democratic and plural societies.
