The journalistic error is an object of reflection which is located at the confluence of ethics, quality and technique. After reviewing cases of errors in the recent world press, this article focuses on the errata publishing systems of four Brazilian online news: Folha de S. Paulo, R7, O Globo and G1. Based on the hypothesis that there are errors that do not become errata, but simply become updates in the pages of online news sites, we tested a methodology to detect errors using the site Change Detection. The analysis of four models show a number of worrying symptoms: lack of connection between the source article and errata, errors are not fully corrected, the mere mention of the update without error, the sloppiness of the news sites that communicates the error, and the lack of reflection on the best way to make a real-time coverage, forgetting the one who really matters: the reader.
Keywords: journalistic error, journalistic ethics, quality.
