Abstract

The present article seeks to address the repercussion of the economic recession on the formal labor market in the Northeast between 2014 and 2018. Based on a bibliographical survey and secondary data collection from official sources of statistics (IBGE, MTE), a economic situation before and during the crisis, highlighting its reflections on labor market conditions in the northeastern region. In this context, the paper presents some indicators that allow us to understand the impacts of the recession on the generation of formal jobs in the different sectors of economic activity. The information points to a trend of working conditions in the Northeast to the national dynamics, the number of formal jobs in the Northeast for example, decreases from 2015, leading to a reduction of 243,584 formal jobs in 2017 compared to 2014. The balance of formal jobs in 2015 reaches a value of -251,260, this one, shows a small improvement in the year 2018, but falls again between January and April 2019, reaching a total of -47,905. It is still important to point out that the unemployment rate in the Northeastern labor market shows an upward trend starting in 2015, reaching its highest value in March 2017, reaching 16.3%.
