Since its foundation in 1997, Fairtrade International (bett er known as FLO) has traveled many roads and undergone remarkable changes. In recent years, because of the drift from the original principle of fair trade (the defense of small producers), Southern producers, especially Latin Americans, are fostering deep changes inside the governance of the FLO system, so that the three producer networks really carry out the decision-making process inside the system. The purpose of this article is to provide the Latin American perspective on the current situation of the FLO system and on the future challenges of the movement for a solidarity trade, with justice and fairness.
Keywords: fair trade, Fairtrade International, small producers, Latin America.
