Abstract

What is presented here is an eminently personal narrative, of empirical character, about some field entries taken place in Manchester, Northern England, between February and May of 2015, in a broader investigation about local music scenes. We aimed at highlighting events and laterally-placed cases in relation to the mainstream of the hegemonic phonographic industry. It is therefore a discussion about independent rock, about social occurrences and acts of structuring happening underway in the underground circuit. The materials presented are ones which allow us to speculate also about the relations between urban imaginaries and produced (or fixed) memories by pop music. It is after all a discussion about tensions between the past and the present of alternative music produced in the area.

Keywords: Manchester, music scenes, independent music, alternative rock.
