This paper explores the edition of two articles of Portuguese Wikipedia (on the soccer players “Adriano Leite Ribeiro” and “Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima”), seeking to analyze, mostly through quantitative data, the role of editors more engaged (members of “virtual community”) and of the many actors eventually involved in the project (“crowndsourcing”) (Haythornthwaite, 2009). We begin with a theoretical discussion about the characteristics of “common-based peer production” (Benkler, 2006) and about the complexity of the functioning of Wikipedia in recent years. In empirical research, the objectives are to identify how the performance of different groups of editors varies over time and to what extent their performance is associated with increased of “restrictive editions” (reversals, undone editions and protections). At the end, we identified two main types of disputes among editors and discuss the dynamics of collaborative editing of articles.
Key words: collaboration, Wikipedia, edition, crowndsourcing, virtual community.
