This paper discusses the issues of film adaptation, looking for relationships between cinema and literature beyond mere comparativism, which aims to establish “loyalty” as the centerpiece of a theory of adaptation. The paper points out that when transforming a book into film, the issues of adaptation are not just about a esthetic issues, but can also be influenced by its mode of production as an economic process, according to the marketplace on which this film is distributed, funding sources and its audiences. To this end this paper compares three different film adaptations of the book Alice in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll.
