Against the grain of individualistic culture: educational processes in youth groups and social capital
Abstract
This paper discusses non-formal educational processes developed in youth groups associated to three organizations in which the group experience constitutes the foundation of youth formation. The organizations to which these groups are linked are: In Search of Peace Network (EBP), Pastoral Work with Students (PJE) and Movement of Landless Rural Workers (MST). It postulates that these groups, which are organized in horizontal systems of participation, provide learning experiences that foster the development of individual and collective abilities and skills as well as relationships of trust and mutual help that have effects beyond the group, generating important mediations for the construction of social capital among youth.
Key words: formation processes, youth, social capital.Downloads
