Basic Education in the hospital school: A space of diversity and citizenship
Abstract
The article describes and analyzes the pedagogical praxis of a basic school teacher at a philanthropic hospital in Bahia. Ethnography and the multi-referential approach were the paper’s theoretical references. The research was a case study and the instruments used were observations of the teachers in the classroom recorded in the field diary and video, teacher’s interviews and testimonies of students and their relatives. The results show that the pedagogical praxis was diversified and challenging, since the curriculum was made for students of different ages, cities, levels of schooling and pathologies. The multicultural proposal was appropriate to the context, because it allowed the students to express their ideas and perceptions and to integrate themselves to that context. The analysis also identified the need for the recognition of this educational mode as an integral part of the official system of education and a better accompaniment of the project by the institutions responsible for it.
