Marks of identity in the end of life care

Abstract

End of life care correspond to actions of care that are driven to people whose prognosis point out to their last six months of survival rate. Home Care Services enable the home return in this last period, depending on the presence of a caregiver in this residence. This article aimed to comprehend the repercussions of end of life care to family caregivers. It was used the clinical-qualitative method. Participants were six family caregivers who were interviewed by the usage of semi-directive interviews. As for data analysis, it was used the content analysis. It was identified that the demand of a continuous care by those who are experiencing their end of life, promotes changes on the identities of family caregivers. Such changes guarantee a social attribution to these caregivers, and, also a superior position in their nuclear family.
