The objective of this study was to analyze training programs for mothers and fathers which are used to promote positive parenting practices in early childhood, specifically those aimed at parents of children from zero to seven years of age, with typical development. For the purposes of this study, typical development is understood as the general pattern of development of the child, in accordance with expected parameters for their age group, including relationship, behavior and school learning. A systematic review of national and international literature was carried out, based on empirical articles published on Web of Science, PsycINFO and BVS databases, from 2012 to 2017. The databases were accessed via Periódicos CAPES/MEC Website. Two descriptors indexed in Portuguese and English were used: parenting (parentalidade) and parent training (treinamento de pais). We were able to locate 300 articles in total, which were imported to Zotero reference manager. Twenty-eight duplicate papers were discarded. Then, titles and abstracts containing the descriptors mentioned were read, narrowing down our search to 27 papers. After reading and analyzing the material, eight quantitative articles were considered relevant. Results indicated an expansion of training programs for parents worldwide, discussing the massive female participation in them. Factors such as better/higher socioeconomic status, education, age of fathers/mothers contributed for greater adherence and permanence in training programs.
