Abstract

This study investigates the production, adaptation and licensing of free and open teaching materials in the digital environment, known, in the literature, as Open Educational Resources (OERs). The primary objective, based on the analysis of the authoring system Electronic Learning Organizer, is to outline the concept of what we understand as Open Authoring System (OAS), based on the principles of mass collaboration and developed to facilitate the production, adaptation and appropriate licensing of OERs. The secondary objective is to describe the different processes that ensure the opening of these OERs, focusing on what is known as the 4 R’s: Reuse, Review, Remixing and Redistribution, also taking into account the question of authorship, with the inclusion of Creative Commons licenses, widely recommended among researchers. The methodology of the study is in agreement with the theoretical postulates of qualitative research in education and describes the OAS which was proposed for the development of the OER. The results indicate that the OAS analyzed, considering the conditions it offers in terms of usability for the teacher, ease of access, cloud storage capacity and the possibility of open licensing, is able to provide educators with the experience of mass collaboration for the production of teaching materials in the language area.

Keywords: open educational resources, open authoring systems, creative commons.
