The football terminology in Mozambique: The case of neologisms in the Portuguese language class in high school

Abstract

This research fills a methodological gap in the Portuguese teaching in High School in Mozambique. It questions possible methodologies for neologisms teaching in the classroom. The study aims to get to know the methodologies used in research on neologisms in High School in Mozambique. Specifically, it aims to identify the football neologisms in the Notícias newspaper; analyze the portuguese manuals in use and explain the working methods with neologisms. The research showed that there is prejudice against neologisms, wich is why teaching programs and teachers do not deal with this subject. It was concluded that there is need to adopt new methodological paradigms to exploit content in High School. This can be achieved by practical activities that allow the introduction of concepts and their exploitation in the classroom. This lexical awareness will allow the student to discuss and perform a thorough work towards creating a general mozambicanisms dictionary.

Alexandre António Timbane, Universidade Federal de Goiás Regional Catalão

Doutor em Linguística e Língua Portuguesa (2013) pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP) - Brasil, Mestre em Linguística e Literatura (2009) pela Universidade Eduardo Mondlane - Moçambique. É Licenciado e Bacharel em Ensino de Francês (2005) pela Universidade Pedagógica-Moçambique Professor e pesquisador visitante na UFG/Regional Catalão. Tem experiência em ensino de francês e português, pesquisa sobre Estudos do léxico, Sociolinguística e Dialetologia com particular enfoque na Variação e mudança lexical do Português Moçambicano, contato linguístico e línguas bantu. É pesquisador em Linguística Forense aplicada às ciências policiais. Desenvolve estudos sobre ortografia na variedade do Português de Moçambique.

Ezra Alberto Chambal Nhampoca, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina Programa de Pós-graduação em Linguística

Doutoranda, Moçambicana, licenciada em Linguística e Literatura, em 2005 e mestre em Linguística, em 2010, pela Universidade Eduardo Mondlane Moçambique, onde é docente (assistente universitário) desde 2006. Estando atualmente afeta ao Departamento de Línguas da Faculdade de Letras e Ciências Sociais, Secção de Línguas Bantu. Tem experiência na área de Linguística, com ênfase em Linguística Aplicada Comunicacional Lexicografia, como confecção e análise de dicionários bilíngues, envolvendo Português e línguas Bantu de Moçambique, com destaque para as línguas do grupo Tsonga (Changana, Citshwa e Ronga). Possui também experiência em lecionação das seguintes disciplinas: Lexicologia, Ensino de Língua Bantu (Changana), Métodos de Estudo e Terminologia. Atualmente é doutoranda em Linguística (Semântica Cognitiva) no Programa de Pós-graduação em Linguística, da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina Brasil.
