Linguistic landscape and repertoires in times of diversity: A situation in perspective
Abstract
This work discusses the dinamic and increasing reality in terms of linguistic and cultural contacts in the city of Juiz de Fora (Brazil), in (super)diversity times. We deconstruct the idea that the city is monolingual through the observation of its landscape, that is not only a linguistic one, but also a social one. Thereunto, we use the concepts of linguistic landscape by Shohamy and Gorter, communicative repertoires by Rymes and spatial repertoires by Otsuji and Pennycook. So, through an ethnographic qualitative study in progress, based on expanded notes and photographs, we have noticed that the new reality may be favorable to variations in language and local culture, changing the communicative repertoires of the individuals from this scenario.
Keywords: superdiversity, linguistic landscape, communicative repertoires.
