The spatial turn in the new literacy studies: In search of the third space
Abstract
The active and performative role of space requires the problematization of the way we understand the situatedness of literacy practices and its relation to the creation and maintenance of different spatio-temporalities. Based on the notion of third space in light of different theoretical perspectives, I present an overview of studies that offer new insights on the relation between space and literacy practices, characterizing the “Spatial Turn” in the field of literacy studies. Finally, I take the assumptions of the spatial perspective in the New Literacy Studies as a theoretical reference to start thinking about a pedagogy of third space.
Keywords: literacies, space, third space.
