Higher education involves dimensions that go beyond the transmission of knowledge, including housing for students, among other aspects related to student subsistence. In Brazil, there are few scientific investigations that assess the spatial implications of this form of housing in university
contexts. In this article, we aim to explore the state of the art on this topic, carrying out a systematic review that covers national and international studies. Thus, 37 scientific articles were selected, published between 2016 and 2020, and 13 different study perspectives were identified. As a discussion of greater interest, the themes of studentification, housing typologies, residential satisfaction and academic performance stand out, confirming that student housing constitutes fundamental spaces in the life paths of university students.
