Abstract

The article aims at studying the discourse conveyed by Globo newslett er on the Internet, the G1, about the political activists arrested at the end of the football World Cup in the city of Rio de Janeiro. It aims at mapping some aspects of a newspaper that was guided by the use of symbols and stigmas, which tended to operate with the criminalization of events and political activists. Furthermore, this article demonstrates a rhetoric that legitimizes the repressive actions on the streets, forming a conservative perception of democracy and social actors conceived as illegitimate. As for the analysis, it was selected all articles published in the period from 12 to 25 July 2014.

Keywords: G1 (by Globo channel on its news portal), political activism, speech.
