Abstract

This article presents a detailed report of the brazilian periodicals in communications, in a perspective turned to the study of the constitution of the scientific field of the area. Before the analysis of the determined corpus, we discuss the ways the periodicals are used in the social study of the science. The study of the periodicals allows us to identify certain standards in the publications’ structure, concerning different periods of time. At first, the typical periodical seems to be the result of the professors of communication’s action gathered in graduation courses and research centers. However, the basic standard today is the periodical connected with the post-graduation program in communications. We describe the recent electronic journal (internet) of the area and also discuss issues such as evaluation and visibility of the works, considering the Qualis (Capes) system and the SciELO project (Fapesp/Bireme).
