Abstract

The study of the violence that appears on the mass media and its influence on the audience has been one of the classic topics in the mass communication research and that has given place to more myths, even among the scientific community. In this paper we try to emphasize those points of agreement and disagreement in the above mentioned researches. First of all, we will gather results that communication researchers seem to agree. Secondly, we will show topics where there is no agreement. We will emphasize the state of the art of the researches about three fundamental concepts: childhood, violence and television. Consequently we will show different approaches on the childhood, we will discuss what has been considered violence and, finally, we will show which are television's influences.
