On Foucault and Journalism

Even though M. Foucault has not written specifically on journalism, he situates journalism within the modernity project suggesting a complex image of it. Journalism as having a birthdate, the XIX century. Journalism being both a product and a producer of modern life, associated to a network of ideas – rationality, emancipation, truth regimens. Journalism as a leakage point of a power regime anchored on the idea of absolute transparency which, thus, places it within Foucault´s bigger project investigating disciplinary society. Journalism as the utmost realization that, within the emancipatory project, democratic vigilance was an utopia.Downloads
