Innovating in ticket sales: Experience design for public transportation in Santa Maria, RS, Brazil
Abstract
This paper presents a study of user experience design and its application in a project focused on public transportation in the city of Santa Maria, RS, Brazil. Initially, surveys were performed about experience design and the context of public transportation, including the use of technologies designed to improve the quality of this service. Then the context where the project is expected to be implemented was analyzed as well as the local users and the situation of local public transportation. Based on the results of a survey, two main problems were identified: ticket purchase and the lack of information at bus stops. Thus, the project’s goal was the development of a ticket vending machine to be located at bus stops spread throughout the city and containing general information about bus routes and their schedules. The project was based on methods of product design and user experience design. The result obtained was a modular product where both the vending machine and a bench or a billboard can be placed enabling the composition of a bus stop.
