Abstract

This paper introduces the process of construction of the theory of the State and presents an exercise of politics analysis. It is argued that, in the current stage of development of political science, the class struggle is the determinant concept of the State. Therefore, every analysis of a concrete state must be based on the movement of the classes, which is the essence of this state. It is suggested that the study about the Brazilian State of the 1940s and 1950s can be applied to the present situation with some alterations.

Key words: theory of State, Brazilian economic history, political science, developmentalism.
