Ecological aspects of the Hypsiboas albopunctatus (Anura, Hylidae) in central Brazil
Abstract
Ecological aspects of Hypsiboas albopunctatus were studied in an area of Cerrado habitat in Brasília (Distrito Federal, DF) in 2005 at the end of the rainy season. Seventy individuals were collected, 83% of them were active in the period from 20:00 to 22:00, being found mainly on the ground along the edge of the lagoon (70%), and those that were on the vegetation explored mainly perches up to 50 cm high. Diet was composed of 13 categories of prey, out of those, Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera, Aranae, and Formicidae were the most abundant, and Aranae and Coleoptera showed higher IVI values, as a consequence of the greater volume of the preys. The canonical correlation analysis showed that the association between the head sizes and the prey dimensions is not significant.
