The configuration of a sport labor market in the professionalization of football. Córdoba (Argentina), 1930-1940

Abstract

The article examines the process of structuration of a sport labor market and the configuration of a new profile of workers in the professionalization of soccer in Córdoba (Argentina) in the 1930s. This process involved a new phase of soccer as spectacle, with the specialization of a body practice and the incorporation as wage-earning of a group of soccer players in the new sport labor market through temporary contract of services. In the first place, the paper explores the creation and performance of this professional field and its commodification process. In the second place, the article analyzes the practices, experiences and strategies of sports leaders and players in this phenomenon and examines the tensions, reactions and negotiations in its development.
