The epistolary relationships of Juan Manuel de Rosas in exile (1852-1877): Friendship, abandonment and regret
Abstract
The epistolary relationships of a person make it possible to do a reading of their relational networks through the exchange and the content of the letters. This work is based on an analysis of a total of 239 letters exchanged between Juan Manuel de Rosas and three correspondents –Josefa Gomez (78 letters), Jose Maria Roxas y Patrón (27 letters), and Justo José de Urquiza (13 letters)– between April 1, 1852 and December 13, 1876. The period corresponds to the exile of Juan Manuel de Rosas –governor of the province of Buenos Aires between 1829 and 1832 and 1835 and 1852 –, in Southampton (England), until his death in 1877.
Keywords: letters, Juan Manuel de Rosas, exile.
