Transnational Catholic networks and Fidei Donum priests in the State of Maranhão (1960-1980)
Abstract
This article discusses the phenomenon of the redefinition of priests’ functionsin Brazil, focusing on the reconfi gurations of the Catholic space worldwide since the 1960s. Based on the study of the patterns of international circulation of missionary priests, it analyzes the reconfi gurations of Catholic transnational networks, highlightingthe promotion of new forms of exchanging ideas, practices and cultures betweenNorth and South. Finally, it examines two institutional and missionary confi gurationsin which those foreign priests started their action and developed their commitments inthe Brazilian State of Maranhão.
