Memory gaps: Writing and oceanic discoveries. A methodological approach
Abstract
This article is a methodological reflection on the important role of writing in the Atlantic European expansion during the 15th and 16th centuries. The written accounts of discoverers and conquerors of the new worlds, despite being a usual source, can give us a useful outlook about their communicative capacity if we examine them from points of view other than the traditional ones. This is particularly so if we focus on clues underlying these important accounts for a better understanding of this phenomenon.
Keywords: writing, discoveries, historiography.
