Bittersweet memories of the Brazilian dictatorship: An issue of gender
Abstract
Memories of participation in left-wing organizations, including the armed struggle during the military dictatorship in Brazil, have been stimulated by the political moment in this country that, since the mid nineties, has brought to power names that stood out in those resistance movements. The narratives of some women have also been permeated by evaluations instructed by their identification with feminism. In other cases, it is the family members themselves who demand silence. In this manner, the memory of the recent past comes to us aff ected by multiple constraints.
Key words: women, gender relations, dictatorship, memory, silence.
