Three died for France
Abstract
This article focuses on three soldiers killed in action during World War I, on the basis of several documents. It questions the memories of the war, presents the families’ attempts at recovering the soldiers’ bodies as well as the different versions of their actions and deaths. It discusses particularly the feelings of family members who, distant from the battlefront, sought information about what had happened to their sons.
