The Cachoeirinha evictions and the struggle for land during the military dictatorship
Abstract
This article discusses a land conflict named “conflito de Cachoeirinha”, which occurred in the 1960s in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The article considers the perspective of memory and transitional justice studies, as well as the theory of recognition. Its goal is to understand how the testimonies of the peasants involved in the land conflict reported in the Minas Gerais Truth Commission’s (COVEMG) final report can help to ensure the recognition of a traditionally stigmatized group with no recognized rights.Downloads
