Abstract
The article reconstructs, based on contemporary testimonies, the daily experiencesof the Chilean troops and their impressions in the camps installed in theAtacama Desert between November of 1879 and April of 1880, while the War of thePacific was taking place. It studies the strategies deployed by the soldiers to survive ina hostile environment, feed themselves, inhabit, distract and how they honored theircomrades fallen in combat.Downloads
